This workshop will give you an introduction to the internationally renown method of Jivamukti Yoga. Founded by Sharon Gannon and David Life in New York City in 1984, Jivamukti classes integrate the physical, psychological and spiritual aspects of yoga. The name Jivamukti comes from two sanskrit words; Jiva meaning individual soul and mukti meaning liberation.
”The name Jivamukti Yoga reflects the fact that it is possible to have a beneficial and fulfilling life in the world, and also progress spiritually – perhaps even attaining liberation (Samadhi) while living.” – Sharon Gannon and David Life
Jivamukti Yoga is a method for the modern yogi but without compromising on the ancient teachings of yoga. We will explore the five tenets that the method is built upon which are:
Ahimsa: Non-violence and Compassion
Shastra: Study of yogic scriptures
Nada: Yoga of Sound and Deep Listening
Bhakti: Devotion and Opening the heart
The workshop includes a vinyasa-based asana practice, hands-on adjustments, breath awareness, meditation and deep relaxation. A dynamic yoga practice to lengthen and strengthen the body with creative sequences. Open to all levels but a basic knowledge of yoga is recommended.
