Meditative deep relaxation
Yoga Nidra is a horizontal meditative guided deep relaxation that is often called "yogic sleep".
Slowly landing into the transitions between the different stages of the mind awake / dream & deep sleep is mentally soothing and restorative.
The physical body falls asleep but you remain in consciousness which activates the parasympathetic nervous system so that the body finds natural healing both physically, mentally, hormonally, and emotionally.
Yoga Nidra is said to correspond to 2-4 hours of sleep, because of the very calm brainwave activity you end up in. Yoga Nidra is used as a tool to reduce stress, sleep problems, to calm the mind. It is also good for those who have or are about to be burnt out / exhausted or if you have various emotional, physical, or mental wounds.
Everyone can participate, as long as you can lie on your back. Feel free to wear comfortable clothes and if you get cold easily, maybe socks or an extra sweater.
